There is a surface-level functionality to many of the songs on “Donda,” and a choice few stash some truly gorgeous flourishes. Once an auteur dubbed a genius for his production acumen, his curatorial sensibility, and his supreme administrative skill, Kanye is no longer the adhesive that holds his music together. “Donda” is easily Kanye’s best solo work since “ The Life of Pablo,” which was an excellent but aimless album that preceded a series of lesser, erratic ones. With this rollout, Kanye has seemingly cracked the code on things he’s been trying to work out for several years, like making albums into living documents and replicating the provocation and fanaticism of Trump rallies in musical experiences. Kanye set himself on fire brought Kim Kardashian, who is divorcing him, onstage in a wedding dress and, in an obvious and empty provocation, introduced his two new embattled collaborators‚ Marilyn Manson, who has been accused of sexual assault by multiple women, and DaBaby, who has recently been criticized for his homophobic comments. The third and final event, held a few weeks later, was the grandest of the three productions, with a replica of the artist’s childhood home built inside the venue. The version he played at the next listening event had grown substantially. When the first scheduled release date passed, Kanye began living inside the stadium, and set up a live stream from the room where he claimed to be finishing the record. At the first event, in July, he débuted a rough version of the album, including a verse Jay-Z had recorded that same day. In the weeks leading up to the release, the artist held a series of stadium gatherings-two at Mercedes-Benz Stadium, in Atlanta, and a third at Soldier Field, in Chicago. He premièred his 2018 album, “ Ye,” to a small crowd of celebrities and music writers near Jackson Hole, and held a series of similar events in other cities as part of “ Project Wyoming.” He started his weekly “Sunday Service” events, performing gospel versions of secular songs with his choir, in 2019, and that same year he took that choir inside James Turrell’s Roden Crater for the “Jesus Is King” movie, a visual companion to “ Jesus Is King,” the 2019 album that documented his religious awakening.įor this latest album, the listening events were a vehicle for Kanye’s notorious perfectionism, one-upmanship, and procrastination. Eventually, débuting the music directly to small crowds of devout believers became key to his process. In recent years, he has come to resemble a megachurch televangelist, on account of his reactionary politics, his public scandals, and the way he uses congregation as an excuse for exclusion and self-promotion. Neither God nor Kanye’s mom provides a sense of direction here.Īt various intervals throughout his career, Kanye has tried (and, for the most part, failed) to reconcile the secular and the sanctified. The song’s blend of platoon-march chants and gospel choir seemed to activate the lyrics, which described why he was willing to risk throwing his rap career away to simply say that he’d been saved.“Donda,” by contrast, is music without an animating principle, divine or otherwise: the album lacks both the uplifting spirit of gospel and the worldly soul of rap. “I ain’t here to argue about His facial features / Or here to convert atheists into believers,” he rapped on the 2004 track. The sense of purpose that powered “Jesus Walks”-one with a panoramic view of theology that included empathy for the souls of strippers, hustlers, drug dealers, and killers-is missing. Kanye does not abide by his mother’s philosophy on his tenth solo studio album, “Donda,” a Christian-rap album that is pitifully short on meaningful gestures of conviction or convincing expressions of what it feels like to be in His embrace. To Donda West, the hit wasn’t just the manifestation of a blessing but a symbol of his work ethic and vision: “To tell someone they must believe in God is not nearly as effective as believing in God yourself and having them see what results from your faith.” “This was everything Kanye had worked for finally coming together,” she wrote. She wrote of Kanye as divinely favored and “Jesus Walks,” his unlikely 2004 single, as a song with a purpose. In her 2007 book, “ Raising Kanye,” the late Donda West devoted an entire chapter to the song “Jesus Walks” and the story of how her son inherited his Christianity.

He put those plans into action just days before he was killed on the Fire Ball ride. Tyler had his entire life ahead of him, and he was prepared to put it on the line in the service of his country. Tyler Jarrell Was Killed on Impact After Being Thrown From the Ride & Had Just Joined the Marines You can read the Fire Ball inspection reports later in this story.ġ. “The fair is about the best things in life and tonight with this accident it becomes a terrible, terrible tragedy,” Ohio Governor John Kasich said on July 26, just a few hours after the tragedy occurred. His girlfriend, Keziah Lewis, was among those injured. Jarrell’s name was originally given by authorities as Tyler Jarrett, but they then corrected that information and said his name is Tyler Jarrell. The deceased victim “was thrown high into the air and landed on the ground about 50 feet from the ride,” reported The Columbus Dispatch. It shows riders tumbling through the air as the cart detaches from the rest of the ride. A graphic video of the accident circulated widely on social media. The fair tragedy also left seven other people injured when a piece of the ride snapped off, sending a gondola and riders plunging to earth. Jarrell, who enlisted on July 21, only five days before he died on the amusement ride, was lauded by the Marines as “one of the brave few willing to step up and serve his country.” Marines right out of high school only a few days before he died, was identified as the 18-year-old Columbus man who was tossed from the Fire Ball ride at the Ohio State Fair and killed in what the governor has called the fair’s worst tragedy in its history. The brick salvage yards near me, have the best selection of all the options below, but maybe you don’t have a place near you. What you pay at a home salvage may be slightly more costly then you get elsewhere Where Else Can You Get Second Hand Bricks? You won’t find it in the same quantity as you would at the brick salvage yards near me, but you will get hand picked nice pieces. These are good places to check if you are trying to complete a smaller project. In my experience with the home salvages near me, you can find used brick. Architectural Salvages May Also Carry Used Brick These businesses serve the purpose of recirculating materials back into the community to create a more sustainable environment and divert landfill waste. Most of these places are run by volunteers. There are lots of these places out there and if they are near you, you can save the shipping. They are a non profits that collects masonry and stone as well as other architectural salvage and sells it below market price. One of my favorite options for second hand brick is finding places like Rebuilding Exchange and Reuse Depot. Also it will be all from the same era and collection delivered on a pallet. They will likely have some roughness to them with chips in the corners, but that’s the beauty of the worn and rustic look. The upside though is that you will get high quality selected pieces. The drawback on reclaimed brick is that it can be expensive. These places have huge pallets of this stuff, which helps you get a sense of the look and feel of what tone your structure will have. You can even find end pieces or “L” shapes perfectly suited for corners. For example if you wanted Chicago “Queen” veneer cut for flooring or Milwaukee “Cream City” Full Sized Brick for a wall, you can find it and purchase it by the square foot. These companies will organize bricks into very specific types and sizes. What these companies do is collect the most intact pieces of used brick and then pallet it for you to purchase second hand. Brick Salvage Yards Near Me and How They Workīusinesses that deal in used brick can be classified as a brick salvage salvage yards, building material suppliers, and used brick dealers. There is also a spin-off series called Police 911, also a sequel to the first game and is set in Japan. These were followed by a Compilation Rerelease for the PlayStation. Home ports of both games were released for the Sega Genesis, Sega CD and Super Nintendo Entertainment System (first game only) bundled with the Justifier light gun. The gameplay is the same, only now you fight outlaws in Old West settings such as a saloon and a stagecoach holdup. While the previous game was set in modern times, this game changes the setting to The Wild West. In 1994, Konami released a sequel, Lethal Enforcers II: Gun Fighters (called Lethal Enforcers II: The Western in Japan). Combined with violent gameplay, like the similar use in Mortal Kombat (1992) (albeit without the famous blood and gore), this resulted in controversy. The Bank Robbery, in which you must stop bank robbers from escaping and stealing the money, Chinatown Assault, in which you must battle The Triads and the Tongs as well as Chinese knife-wielding triads that have overrun Chinatown, The Hijack, in which you must prevent a general and his group of terrorists from taking a plane and escaping, The Drug Dealers, where you must stop the bad guys from selling drugs to innocent people, and The Chemical Plant, where you must stop terrorists from sabotaging a chemical plant to poison the water supply.Īmong the light gun games that filled the arcades, Lethal Enforcers stood out as the first to use Digitized Sprites, specifically based on photographs of live actors and locales, giving the game a photorealistic (if pixelated) appearance. There are five missions to complete in the game, each ending with a Boss Battle. Shooting the bad guys will increase your rank, which is needed to get through the stages, but killing any innocent bystanders or police officers in the process will reduce your rank instead. Lethal Enforcers is a 1992 Light Gun Game by Konami in which you are a police officer trying to take out criminals and terrorists.

Contact an EAR product specialist for configuration, pricing and availability details (images and accessories shown may vary with final configuration details) This is pretty awesome especially when mixing down songs. I can see 15 tracks plus the mixing console, including expanded panels, and even one or two effects plugins at the same time. Check out this Audio DAW setup (using the now free Cakewalk on Windows by BandLab in this case): Especially in these days of using Live Reload having browser, debug tools as well as a development environment with your server side code open and being able to see it all on a single screen is awesome.Īnother awesome use of a 4K screen at 100% is using audio recording software as I often do. For software development having a large screen is a life saver regardless of Web or Desktop requires running so many different applications at the same time. Being able to run 4K at 100% resolution was a game changer in terms of screen real estate for so many things. I have had a Philips 40" 4k Screen since 2015 and it has been one of the best tech investments in terms of utility. And the Linux NUC of course doesn't have a screen at all so in the past I had to swap cables which is a pain in the ass. While the Mac certainly has a decent laptop screen, switching from my Windows 40" 4K display to a MacBook screen is quite a shock. It all works well, but in the past the switch between these different environments has been pretty jarring.Ī few weeks ago I decided that between all of these machines that I have and use it's probably a good idea to have a second monitor for these other non-primary devices. NET development as well, just to do something a little different. And more recently I've decided to just use the Mac for regular. I also use the Mac for any mobile development that involves iOS, since it's simply easier to do that natively on the Mac than using some sort of Windows to Mac or iOS bridge. I use the Mac Mini for a few things on a regular basis: I record music frequently so I often use Logic Pro X on the Mac. There's another low end Windows Laptop and a Dell NUC device I run a dedicated Linux instance on. I have several machines that I use including my main Dell XPS Laptop and a Mac Mini (Intel) and also an older 2015 MacBook Pro. So I decided to write a quick review of my setup here to give a few more details that are hard to give in a Twitter conversation. I'm also using a single Logitech Mouse and Keyboard combination to control both machines and quite a few people were asking about how this works. I know way back when this was simple enough as having a "KVM" switch that allowed you use a single Keyboard, Mouse and Display with two different computers and switch between them at the touch of a button, but I figure this has been replaced with a better method by now.Ĭan anyone recommend one? I'm weighing my options here.A little while back I posted a couple of pictures of my new desk setup using both a Windows Laptop (a 2019 Dell XPS) and a Mac Mini (2020) along with two 4k displays. I figured this would be a great way to have a taste of both worlds.a Windows-based (maybe SteamOS someday?) PC strictly for Gaming and a Mac for literally everything else I need a computer to do.īut now I'm seriously considering getting a Mac Mini and sharing a display between it and the Gaming PC. I have a little "Gaming" PC I built back in late 2020 that I was intending to use primarily through remote means such as Parsec, Steam Link, and Microsoft's own remote desktop software. So sometime this year I'll be replacing my Macbook Pro with something newer, and while I figured a iMac was a shoe-in (the M1 models are gorgeous and I miss my AIO Macs) to replace it, I'm seriously considering going with a Mac Mini and separate display instead. |
